Crews Responding to Power Outages in Southern Choctaw County
Power Losses Due to Storms, Winds and Maintenance Work
July 16, 2018 – Black Warrior Electric Membership Corporation has seen an unusual number of outages in southern Choctaw County over the past few months due to damage caused by storms and winds as well as ongoing maintenance work.
The electric co-op’s Gilbertown, Melvin and Silas substations have lost transmission service on several occasions that have left large areas without power for several hours. In addition to the usual summer storms, several major wind events caused damage to the utility’s distribution system.
Members in the Mosley Bridge area and along Clark Road also have experienced outages recently due to various reasons. Crews are working on a maintenance project in the Mosley Bridge area, and engineers are watching outages connected to bad weather.
“Black Warrior EMC is working diligently alongside Alabama Power, our transmission provider, to resolve both transmission and distribution issues that may occur,” Black Warrior General Manager Daryl Jones said. “We thank our members for their patience as we progress through these projects.”
Black Warrior Electric’s outage reporting system allows members to report outages 24 hours a day. To report an outage, call 1-855-GOBWEMC (1-855-462-9362.)
